Join CSAC

Established in 1980, the Chancellor's Staff Advisory Committee (CSAC) serves as a resource for the campus administration. It is a confidential committee of up to 16 members, appointed by the Chancellor. The committee will also select up to an additional 3 alternate members who may be asked to serve as a member in the event that a position becomes vacant.

The committee's mission is to provide staff input into the campus's decision-making processes including, but not limited to, the development and modification of policies and procedures that directly affect staff. CSAC acts as an advisory committee to the Chancellor and Vice Chancellors on a host of issues, with the aim of helping to create a positive working environment for all staff members. Committee priorities are guided by a number of factors, including short- and long-term issues, and the Chancellor's stated goals.

CSAC strives to have a membership that reflects the diversity of the campus staff community. As part of their committee appointment, members of CSAC become an extension of the campus administration and may not advocate on behalf of any organization, department, or special constituency. The opportunity to serve on the Committee is available to all non-executive tier and non-academic campus staff who have completed their probationary period.

Committee Structure

CSAC members are appointed by the Chancellor for three-year terms. Committee goals are set on an annual basis each calendar year. Goals are influenced by a number of factors including current issues and long-range or identified future issues. The Committee speaks through the chair with a unified voice developed through strong commitment to the group and consensus-building processes. The Committee is guided internally by an elected executive committee. Work is accomplished through standing and ad hoc subcommittees and is presented to the full committee for discussion and action. For more details, see the About CSAC portion of this site.

Time Commitment

Full participation in CSAC requires work. Expectations include meetings of the full committee normally held every other Wednesday, from 3 – 5 p.m. An annual one-day CSAC orientation/retreat is held during the first or second week of January.  Additional time will be needed to study issues, draft recommendations, and participate in sub-committee activities. CSAC members serve on subcommittees that may meet during the lunch hour. Email is used to address issues whenever possible. On average, members will have one meeting commitment each week.
